Middle School Camp - Thursday Morning Session

Title: Your Destiny

It is important that we understand that our destiny is to live a legendary life, a hero's faith, a godly life. There are some important things we need to know in order to do this.

1) Do not depend on your feelings (Hebrews 13:5). God makes a promise that He will stick with us no matter what. Our feelings will betray us, but God will not. No matter how we feel God is there. We need to follow Jesus even when the feeling isn't there. Once in a while Jesus will give us a great emotional charge, but we cannot live on continual emotional charges. Just like a person cannot live on Thanksgiving feasting every day.

2) Walk with God! (1 John 2:6) We need to spend time with God both in reading His Word and in prayer. If a person doesn't eat enough food he will die physically. If we don't spend time with God we will die spiritually. We need to read Scripture. There are people who can help us do this by providing a reading schedule or devotional. Ask your youth pastor or parents.

Prayer is simply talking to God. In order to walk with God and walk the way Jesus walked we must spend time studying how He walked in through reading Scripture and praying. It is through prayer that God will enable us to walk as Jesus did. We don't pray and read to earn God's love. His love for us is already there and doesn't depend upon our actions. Instead, we read and pray because we love God.

3) Be holy! (Leviticus 20:7-8) There is no way we can be holy on our own. Holiness comes from God. We are holy not because of what we do but because of who we are in Christ. As a result of God making us holy our responsibility is to be obedient to Him. (Matthew 18:5-6). If we are going to be a follower of Christ we are responsible for drawing people to Him and we will be held responsible for pushing others away. Our obedience through our holiness will draw people to Him.
